There seems to be an increasing amount of artists playing with perspective and optical illusion installations. This one is quite interesting to look at even though it is formally quite minimalist. The title is Out of Space but to me it looks more like charred walls and a 'fire safe wall' of some sort rather than a stars in space. What do you think? Sebastien Verdon is a new discovery for me and I think I am becoming quite inspired. My favourite piece of his is reviewed in Juxtapoz. Mind is ticking already!

ReplyDeleteI think what I like best about it is that it allows the viewer to interact more actively with the piece - i.e. the big areas of empty space seem to compel someone else's own subjective interpretation, rather than the artist dictating the meaning alone. I don't know if that makes sense ...
