Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson's most recent film, Moonrise Kingdom, is full of stylistic retro delight. Set in 1965 on a small island off the coast of New England, the story follows a pair of star-struck 12 year old lovers as they plan and make their escape into the wilder parts of the tiny island they live on. The island is turned upside down as the authorities hunt them down and a violent storm threatens to come onshore. Anderson found the perfect ingredients for a cast: Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Edward Norton, and mixed this with hyper-real costume and set design (major swoon for the portable record player!) Definitely a must watch this year.
